University of Amsterdam fires activist lecturer

As the blog RethinkUva reports, the University of Amsterdam has fired one of the lecturers that played an active role in last years’ protests. It is quite unclear what the backstory is — from other reports, it looks as if he had refused to implement some formal procedures concerning teaching and testing. This obviously raises questions of academic freedom (as the manner of teaching can often not really be separated from the content), and it is to be hoped that the person in question is adequately supported by the relevant unions to clarify whether the administration was within their rights.
